Dear Colleagues,
It’s our pleasure to invite you to the 3rd meeting of the Baltic 21 Ad-hoc Working Group on Balanced Urban and Rural Development in Stockholm, Sweden 20-21 February 2008.
The working group has made good progress on the preparation of the Baltic Sea Regional Strategic Project on Integrated Management of Urban and Rural Areas, and the first part of the meeting will be devoted for discussions on the project.
This part will be most useful for interested project partners.

The second part of the meeting will specifically address the theme of sustainable rural development.
In this regard, the mandate of the working group was extended by the Baltic 21
Senior Officials Group (SOG 27, Uppsala, Sweden, 20-21 November 2007).
As part of its
extended mandate, the working group will contribute to the input of Baltic 21 for the Baltic Sea States Summit, Riga, Latvia 3-4 June 2008, where Baltic 21 is expected to report of actions on sustainable rural development.

In order to enable the working group to better address the issue of sustainable r ural development, the Secretariat is aiming at recruiting new participants for the group.
We would also hereby like to ask the SOG members, please, to identify and mobilise suitable new representatives.
The meeting will take place at NORDREGIO close to the centre of Stockholm.
The meeting is scheduled lunch-to-lunch, and NORDREGIO is kindly inviting the participants for a joint lunch on both meeting days. Please, see the preliminary time-table for more information on the timing.

For practicalities such as hotel and how to get to the meeting venue, please see the document Practical Information for Participants (WGURD 3/Info 1).
